UNF unions join two lengths of threaded conduit (female to female). UNY unions have one male end that threads into an enclosure hub, sealing fitting or fixture and one female end for the conduit. Both are three-piece unions that let the joint be broken and remade without rotating either conduit.
UNF/UNY Universal Union Fittings
UNF and UNY explosion-proof union fittings for rigid conduit in Class I Division 1 and 2 and Class II Division 1 locations. A union lets an explosion-proof enclosure, sealing fitting or fixture be disconnected for maintenance without unthreading the whole run: UNF is the female-to-female union used between two conduit ends, UNY the male-to-female union that connects conduit to a threaded hub or enclosure. Both preserve the full thread engagement the CEC requires for an explosion-proof joint. Sizes and finishes are shown per model; verify the marking against the classification drawing before ordering.
