Corrosion-Resistant LED Lighting for Water Treatment Plants

Water and wastewater treatment facilities operate in persistently wet, corrosive environments where hydrogen sulfide, chlorine, and other chemicals attack conventional lighting fixtures. LEDEX LED fixtures feature corrosion-resistant housings and IP67 sealed construction that thrive in these conditions, delivering decades of reliable illumination without maintenance.

For areas where methane or other combustible gases may be present (digesters, confined spaces), our Class I Division 2 explosion-proof fixtures provide the certified safety your facility requires.

Water and wastewater treatment plants contain specific hazardous location classifications. Anaerobic digesters, sludge processing areas, and enclosed pump stations where methane gas may accumulate during normal operations are classified as Class I Division 1 (C1D1), requiring fully explosion-proof lighting. Adjacent areas, ventilated pump rooms, and outdoor digester perimeters where methane may only be present during abnormal conditions are classified as Class I Division 2 (C1D2). LEDEX provides corrosion-resistant, IP67-sealed explosion-proof LED fixtures certified for both Class I Division 1 and Class I Division 2 hazardous locations in water and wastewater treatment facilities.

LEDEX water and wastewater fixtures are tested to 5G vibration standards, engineered for pump stations, treatment plants, and mechanical processing areas where large pumps, blowers, and aerators generate constant vibration. Our 5G vibration-rated LED fixtures maintain corrosion-resistant seal integrity and reliable illumination in the vibration-prone environments of water treatment infrastructure.

Water & Wastewater Treatment

Application Areas

Water Treatment Plants

Municipal and industrial water treatment with chlorine and chemical exposure. Chemical feed rooms using chlorine gas or volatile disinfectants may require Class I Division 1 (C1D1) or Class I Division 2 (C1D2) rated lighting depending on the chemical handling methods and ventilation design. Ozone generation areas also require classified fixtures.

Wastewater Processing

Sewage treatment facilities with H2S gas, methane, and corrosive atmospheres. Anaerobic digesters and biogas handling areas are classified as Class I Division 1 (C1D1) hazardous locations requiring explosion-proof LED lighting. Primary clarifier enclosures and sludge thickening areas are typically Class I Division 2 (C1D2) zones where methane may accumulate during abnormal conditions.

Pump Stations

Underground and enclosed pump stations with confined space hazards. Lift stations and wet wells that handle raw sewage are classified as Class I Division 1 (C1D1) hazardous locations due to methane and hydrogen sulfide gas accumulation. Dry well pump rooms are typically Class I Division 2 (C1D2) classified areas requiring appropriately rated LED fixtures.

Desalination

Salt water processing facilities with extreme corrosion challenges. While most desalination areas are not hazardous classified, chemical treatment rooms using chlorine or sodium hypochlorite may require Class I Division 2 (C1D2) rated LED fixtures. Backup generator fuel storage areas also require appropriately classified explosion-proof lighting.
